PLANTGRO Update
This file provides a reminder about the need for a path to DOS for
sorting the names of data-files. It also provides backup information
following the publication of the PLANTGRO handbook.
Original date of this file: October 1991
Path to DOS
Certain programs will not operate properly unless there is access on
your computer to the DOS SORT.EXE program. These programs include
BEGIN, CLIMATE, PLANT, and SOIL.
To obtain this access, the PATH statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file
must contain a path to the DOS programs. For example, if your DOS
programs are in C:\DOS, the PATH statement must include that path,
e.g. PATH = c:\;c:\dos
You can change the PATH statement by editing the AUTOEXEC.BAT file
with a wordprocessor using the non-document mode. Make sure that you
have a backup copy of this file before editing it.
Post-publication Information
Aug 91
1. RUNOFF added to water balance. Calculated as SURPLUS not accommodated
by drainable water after allowing for time-spread of SURPLUS. No
allowance for slope or run-on.
2. Cosmetic changes to output from GRO.BAS.
Oct 91
1. Oil palm file improved re aeration on expert advice.
2. FAO climate files corrected for misunderstanding by CH over rows of
temperature data to use.
Dec 91
1. Formal package published by CSIRO (requires GWBASIC). Available from
CSIRO Bookshop, Melbourne - fax 61-3-419-0459. $A 100 for orders within
Australia; $US 100 for orders from elsewhere (covers air mail and currency
charges). Handbook available alone at $A 65 and $U 65. Discounts
block purchases.
Jan 92
1. Correction of typo in first major screen of PHASEGRO.BAS.
Feb 92
1. Production of new test climate files for weeks & tendays by
actual and average data, i.e. 4 new files. Old ones had been
made from monthly ones and still had the original monthly period
labels on them, which caused errors in the labelling of output
from predictions. Delete original test files for these time-
periods, please, and substitute the new ones, if available
(see below).
Mar 92
1. Produced Upgrade Disk No. 1 carrying programs in QuickBasic and
compiled form, plus the new test climate files referred to under
Feb above. Price $A 25 for orders within Australia; $US 25 for
orders from elsewhere (covers air mail and currency charges).
Source of disk: as for the full package.
2. Produced a version of the package for pull-down from electronic
networks for trial purposes.
Jul 92
1. BEGIN.BAS Question near bottom of screen improved.
2. CLIMATE.BAS Checks on time-period limits inserted. Deleted
erroneous on-screen warning about use of types of
climate file with certain prediction programs.
3. GRO.BAS Improved water balance routine to make it more
logical in places, especially the starting values
when not using monthly average data. Altered names of
some water balance variables to indicate better that
they relate to plant-water available, not whole soil
profile water available. Now prints value of AETCF to show
resistance of soil to water loss. Improved handling
of root-impenetrable soil and accidental zero soil
depth. Lengths of growing season now presented to one
decimal place. Also some cosmetic changes.
4. MULTIGRO.BAS Option now available for sending output to a file.
5. PHASEGRO.BAS Corrected overall LR printed when LR 9 occurs
during a phase (previously printed zero).
6. PLANT.BAS For entering suitability ratings for soil texture,
the screen definitions now match the data-sheet in
the handbook. Improved the optional notional
relationships in NR.DAT for base saturation and
CEC. Error correction procedures for salinity and
slope now permit lower-case entries.
